Have you already seen the wonderfully beautiful Taiwan Swirl soaps that were made for the Soap Challenge? They are so fantastic! First I didn´t even want to try the Taiwan Swirl, because it looked so beautiful (read: difficult). After pondering for several days, I decided to try it out. I would still get a soap even if it doesn´t look like the swirl I wanted.
I ordered a fragrance oil called Porridge Oats that is a dupe of Lush´s Porridge. First I thought that I would use oat milk, but we had some cream that I bought for Christmas that I had to use soon. I would have like to buy some colloidal oatmeal, but I could not find any. I could not either find oat flour from the store and no baby oats that did not contain berries or fruits. I did try earlier to make flour from oats in a blender, but it did not get fine enough. Now I made some kind of oat flour with my stick blender and I sieved it also. Gladly I got a nice powder. Wishing for a coffee grinder...
Taiwan Swirl onnistui ihmeen hyvin.
I managed to get a ok Taiwan Swirl. I colored the stripes with titanium dioxide and activated charcoal and I managed to make some kind of pattern. It was quite difficult when the uncolored and white soap was almost the same color. The FO discolors a bit so it is easier to see the pattern. The stripes doesn´t contain oat flour, cream or fragrance. I divided the soap batter before I added them.

I made another Taiwan Swirl soap the same day using the same recipe. This soap smells like green apples and the stripes are colored with ultramarine blue and yellow oxide. This soap is also nice, but I poured too much blue soap so you can´t see the light natural colored soap on the top.
Mielestäni kuvio saippuan sivussa on kaunis, tulee ihan mieleen revontulet. / I think that this pattern on the side of the soap is beautiful. Looks like the northern lights. |
PoistaDon't you just love the Taiwan Swirl? I feel hypnotized when I look at it. hahaha! You were able to get clear patterns for both, but I really like the second one. I find ultramarine blue very attractive and it goes well with yellow. Are you planning to make more, Marika? :-)
VastaaPoista:D Well not hypnotized, but it makes me want to make more of them so they will look better. I want to try to make one with the dividers. Now I just poured the accent colors on top of the soap.
PoistaYou achieved really effective designs Marika! I especially like the first one with activated charcoal!
VastaaPoistaOh thank you :) Somehow activated charcoal has become my favorite colorant and ingredient in soap.
PoistaI still haven't done any Taiwan, I'm indecisive whether I should do it this way, or in the slab mould? Or, this way, but with dividers? However, you did it fine, I like blue-yellow soap and the recipe is so nice.
VastaaPoistaI definitely want to try the dividers so I can get the pattern in the whole soap.
PoistaBoth soaps are beautiful, Marika! I haven't tried the Taiwan Swirl myself yet, but I've been seeing the technique a lot lately and the results are so gorgeous!
VastaaPoistaThanks! Taiwan Swirl is something to put on you "to do"-list.
PoistaLovely, Marika! I especially like the black/white soap, I find your soap really good! Can't wait to see your next soap , maybe with dividers? I have some dividers too, but I can't believe I haven't used them yet, maybe the coming months...
VastaaPoistaWish you a lovely we, Marika!
Thank you! I know you have that perfect soap mould. I want to try this with dividers, but I have to make them first.
PoistaYou are much braver than me...I could not bring myself to try this type of swirl yet. Both of yours turned out beautiful Marika!
VastaaPoistaThanks :) I actually think that this was much easier than mantra swirl or elemental swirl.
PoistaMarika, this is such a lovely swirl! And yes, you are brave to try it out, I know how hard it is to handle different colors, and to get the soap at the ideal consistency to manipulate it...
VastaaPoistaThanks :) And it is hard. I tend to have too runny soap and not that much patience to wait for the soap to thicken up a little bit.
