Olin niin iloinen kun näin että Silvia SoapJamistä oli antanut myös minulle tämän Versatile blogger arvonimen. Kiitos! Jos et ole tutustunut SoapJam-blogiin niin kannattaa tehdä piakkoin. Minun ehdoton lempisaippuani on hänen jogurttisaippua jossa on lääkehiiliraita. Todella tyylikäs saippua.
I was so happy when I saw that Silvia from SoapJam had nominated me as a Versatile blogger. Thank you! If you don´t know her work, you should go and read her SoapJam-blog. My absolute favorite soap is the one made with yogurt and has a stripe made with activated charcoal.

En meinaa noudattaa sääntöjä, koska haluan antaa tämän eteenpäin vaan yhdelle henkilölle, eli Signaturellin Signelle, koska hän on aika tuore saippuantekijä mutta hän on jo osannut tehdä hienoja luovia saippuoita sekä muuta kosmetiikkaa. I´m going to bend the rules a bit and only nominate Sigen from Signaturelli, because she is a new soap maker, but has already done some wonderful imaginative soaps and other cosmetics.
 
1. Asun Suomessa, rakkaassa synnyinmaassani ja olen ylpeä suomenruotsalaisista juuristani. I live in Finland, in the country that I was born and I´m proud to be a Finn who´s native language is Swedish and a little bit different traditions too.

2.Unelmoin siitä että voisin muuttaa maalle jossa voisi pitää mm. kanoja ja vuohia. Ja siellä voisi kasvattaa omat juurekset, marjat ja hedelmät. I dream of moving to the countryside where I could have for example chickens and goats. And I could grow my own vegetables, berries and fruits.

3. En ole tyypillinen suomalainen, eli en juo kahvia enkä alkoholia. Mutta rakastan tehdä olutsaippuoita. I´m not a typical Finn. I don´t drink coffee nor alcohol. But I love to make beer soap.

4. Olen aina inhonut käsitöitä, kunnes löysin saippuanteon. I have always hated handicrafts (like knitting and stuff), until I discovered soap making.

5. En lue paljoa, mutta Diana Gabaldonin Muukalaissarjaa voisin lukea uudestaan ja uudestaan. I don´t read a lot, but I can read Diana Gabaldon´s Outalnder series over and over again.

6. Syön mielelläni kasvisruokaa, mutta mikään ei voita kunnon naudanlihapihviä. I like to eat vegetarian food, but nothing beats a good beefsteak.

7. Tunnustan, olen jäätelöholisti. Suosikkini on minttu- tai lakritsijäätelöt. I confess, I´m a ice cream-oholic. My favorites are mint- and licorice.

Taiwan Swirl x 2

Oletteko käynneet katsomassa niitä mahdottoman kauniita Taiwan Swirl-saippuoita jotka tehtiin Soap Challengia varten? Siis niin fantastisia! Ensin en edes viitsinyt kokeilla Taiwan Swirliä, koska se näytti niin hienolta (lue:vaikealta). Usean päivän miettimisen jälkeen päätin kokeilla sitä, koska kai siitä jonkunlainen saippua tulisi.
Have you already seen the wonderfully beautiful Taiwan Swirl soaps that were made for the Soap Challenge? They are so fantastic! First I didn´t even want to try the Taiwan Swirl, because it looked so beautiful (read: difficult). After pondering for several days, I decided to try it out. I would still get a soap even if it doesn´t look like the swirl I wanted.

Tilasin Kaura-tuoksuöljyä joka on kopio Lushin Porridge-saippuasta ja aloin rakentamaan saippuaa tuoksuöljyn ympärille. Ajattelin ensin tehdä saippuan kauramaitoon, mutta jääkaapissa oli jouluna ostettua kermaa joka piti käyttää pois. Olisin halunnut ostaa colloidal oatmealia, mutta en löytänyt mitään sopivaa paikkaa mistä sitä voisi ostaa. Kaupasta ei löytynyt kaurajauhoja eikä vauvojen kaurahiutaleita. Tai löytyi, mutta ei ilman marjoja tai hedelmää. Kokeilin joskus silppua kaurahiutaleita monitoimikoneessa, mutta se ei ollut niin tehokas joten lopputulos oli jotain joka muistutti kauraleseiltä. Halusin kokeilla vielä jauhaa kaurahiutaleita, joten kokeilin tehdä jauhoa ihan sauvasekoittimella ja sen jälkeen siivilöin vielä jauheen. Onneksi siitä tuli aika hienoa jauhoa. Voi kun saisi jostain halvan kahvimyllyn...
I ordered a fragrance oil called Porridge Oats that is a dupe of Lush´s Porridge. First I thought that I would use oat milk, but we had some cream that I bought for Christmas that I had to use soon. I would have like to buy some colloidal oatmeal, but I could not find any. I could not either find oat flour from the store and no baby oats that did not contain berries or fruits. I did try earlier to make flour from oats in a blender, but it did not get fine enough. Now I made some kind of oat flour with my stick blender and I sieved it also. Gladly I got a nice powder. Wishing for a coffee grinder...

 

Taiwan Swirl onnistui ihmeen hyvin. Värjäsin raidat titanioksiidilla ja lääkehiilellä ja sain jopa jonkunlaisen kuvion aikaiseksi. Se oli vähän hankalaa kun luonnonvärinen ja valkoinen saippua oli melkein saman värisiä. Onneksi tuoksuöjy värjää vähän ja kuvio erottuu paremmin. Raidoissa ei siis ole jauhettua kaurahiutaletta, kerma tai tuoksuöljyä vaan erotin saippuamassan ennen kun lisäsin ne.
I managed to get a ok Taiwan Swirl. I colored the stripes with titanium dioxide and activated charcoal and I managed to make some kind of pattern. It was quite difficult when the uncolored and white soap was almost the same color. The FO discolors a bit so it is easier to see the pattern. The stripes doesn´t contain oat flour, cream or fragrance. I divided the soap batter before I added them. 

Ohje:

120 g kookosöljyä
80 g maapähkinäöljyä
100 g oliiviöljyä
100 g riisinleseöljyä

100 g vettä + 56 g lipeää
52 g kermaa, 1 tl jauhettua kaurahiutaletta
10 ml Kaura-tuoksuöljyä
lusikankärjelliset lääkehiiltä sekä titaanioksiidia

Recipe:

120 g coconut oil
80 g peanut oil
100 g olive oil
100 g rice bran oil

100 g water + 56 g lye
52 g cream, 2 tsp oat flour
10 ml Porridge Oats FO
Activated charcoal, titanium dioxide 

Tein vielä samana päivänä toisen Taiwan Swirl saippuan käyttäen samaa ohjetta, mutta tämä saippua tuoksuu vihreälle omenalle ja värjäsin raidat sinisellä ultramariinilla ja keltaisella rautaoksiidilla. Ihan kiva tämäkin, mutta kaadoin liikaa sinistä saippuaa niin luonnonväristä saippuaa ei ole juuriikaan saippuan pinnalla.
I made another Taiwan Swirl soap the same day using the same recipe. This soap smells like green apples and the stripes are colored with ultramarine blue and yellow oxide. This soap is also nice, but I poured too much blue soap so you can´t see the light natural colored soap on the top. 

Mielestäni kuvio saippuan sivussa on kaunis, tulee ihan mieleen revontulet. / I think that this pattern on the side of the soap is beautiful. Looks like the northern lights.

Signen aloevoide - Signe´s aloe creme

Nyt kun pakkaset ovat vihdoinkin saapuneet kaipaavat kasvoni enemmän kosteutta. Minulle tulee talvisin poskiin ja nenän viereen kuivat läikät ja niitä pitää aika ajoin rasvata. En pidä rasvaisista voiteista koska niistä tulee niin helposti näppyjä. Niin mitä sen helpomaa oli kokeilla Signen kehumaa aloe voidetta. Tai eihän se varsinaisesti ole voide, mutta käytetään samalla tavalla.
Now that we in Southern Finland have finally gotten sub zero temperatures, has my face started to crave for more moisture. In the winter I get dry spots on my cheeks and next to my nose. I don´t like greasy cremes because I get spots from them. So it was really easy to try Signe´s aloe creme. Or it is not really a creme, but you can use it the same way.

 
Ensimmäisen kokeiluun laitoin 1/3 viinirypäleensiemenöljyä ja 2/3 aloe vera geeliä, mutta se oli kuitenkin vielä liian kevyttä. Totesin että Signen suosittelema puole aloe vera geeliä ja puolet öljyä on parempi. Lisäsin vielä pari tippaa teepuuöljyä joka karkoittaa näppyjä.
First I tried to mix 1/3 grape seed oil and 2/3 aloe vera gel, but it was too light. I noticed that the best ratio was what Signe recommended, half aloe vera gel and half oil. I also added a couple drops of tea tree oil that should prevent spots.

Voiteeseen voi periaatteessa käyttää ihan mitä hyvin imeytyvää öljyä, esim. manteli-, kirsikansiemen-, aprikoosinsiemenöljyä. Pitää vaan muistaa että pulloa tai purkkia pitää ravistaa ennen joka kertaa. Minä olen käyttänyt voidetta aina iltaisin, mutta tämä sopii myös meikin alle koska se kuivuu nopeasti. Bonuksena iho kimmetää rasvauksen jälkeen.
You can use any well absorbed oil you want for example almond oil, cherry seed oil, apricot seed oil. You just have to remember to shake the bottle or jar every time before you use it. I have used the creme at night, but you can use it before you apply your make up, because it dries so fast. As a bonus your skin shimmers afterwards.

Tämä voide vaikuttaa olevan juuri sopiva kasvojeni iholle. Iho on kirkastunut, siinä on vähemmän tai ei juuri ollenkaan näppyjä ja kuivat kohdat nenän vieressä ovat kadonneet.
This creme seems to be just perfect for my face. My skin is clearer, it has less or almost no spots and the dry spots have disappeared.

Kissanaisen kasvosaippua - Catwoman´s Facial Soap

Muistatteko sen vanhan Batmanin joka tuli telkkarista? Adam West esitti Batmania ja Julie Newmar kissanaista. Kun tein tätä saippuaa monet jaksot ja kohtaukset sarjasta pyörivät päässä. Mikä mukava inspiraatio.
Do you remember the old tv program with Adam West as Batman and Julie Newmar was Catwoman? When I made this soap I was thinking of many scenes from this program. What a nice inspiration.

Siskoni viestitteli tuossa yhtenä iltana että olisiko minulla hänelle jotain sopivaa kasvosaippuaa. Hän kaipasi mietoa, mutta kuitenkin puhdistavaa saippuaa, koska hänen ihonsa on pintakuiva ja herkkä jossa on kuitenkin epäpuhtauksia. Suolasaippua on nyt pidemmässä käytössä kuivattanut hänen ihoaan ja hän kaipasi jotain muuta. Ja tietenkin tekee ihan hyvää iholle että vaihtaa puhdistustuotteita aika ajoin. Siskoni toivoi tuoksutonta tai miedosti tuoksuvaa saippuaa. Päädyin tekemään tuoksuttoman, koska se olisi hellävaraisempi.
My sister sent me messages one night asking if I have a facial soap for her. She wanted a mild soap that should also be cleansing, because her skin can be a little bit dry and sensitive with some impurities. She has used salt soap for a while, but now it makes her skin dry and she wanted something else. And it is of course good for the skin to change the cleansing products from time to time. My sister wished for a soap with a mild scent or a unscented soap. I decided to make the soap unscented so it would be even milder.

Olin muutenkin ajatellut tehdä seuraavaksi kasvosaippuaa, joten siskoni viestit tulivat sopivaan vaiheeseen. Ensimmäisenä tuli mieleen että saippuassa voisi olla paljon oliiviöljyä, joka on hellävaraista. Lisäksi halusin laittaa avokadoöljyä joka kosteuttaa ja sopii hyvin kuivalle iholle. Vähän kaakaovoita myös hoitavuuden takia sekä jonkun verran kookosöljyä joka puhdistaa. Ajattein myös että hellävaraisuutta tuo kamomillatee, jonka haudutin kamomillan kukinnoista. Laitoin myös kaoliinisavea joka sopii herkälle iholle ja ihan vähän lääkehiiltä jotta saippua puhdistaisi tarpeeksi.
I actually had planned to make facial soap the next time I was soaping, so my sister messaged me at a really good time.The first thing that came to my mind was that the soap could contain lots of olive oil that is gentle. And some avocado oil that is moisturizing and is food for dry skin. Also a little bit of cocoa butter and then also some coconut oil that cleanses the skin. I chose chamomile tea that I infused from chamomile buds because it is so gentle. I also put some kaolin clay that suits sensitive skin and a little bit of activated charcoal so the soap would also be clensing.  

Annoksesta sain neljät pienet kissasaippuat sekä lopusta saippuasta tein OHP-saippuaa, ihan vaan sen takia että saisin koekäyttää saippuan ennen kun annan sen eteenpäin. Nyt pitää vaan odottaa että sisko kertoo mitä pitää tästä saippuasta.
From this soapbatter I got four small cat soaps and from the rest of the soap I made ohp soap, so I can try it before I give it to my sister. Now I just have to wait for my sister to tell me what she thinks about this soap.

Tässä vielä tarkka ohje:

201 g oliiviöljyä
69 g kookosöljyä
15 g kaakaovoita
15 g avokadoöljyä

114 g vahvaa kamomillateetä + 41 g lipeää
½ tl kaoliinisavea
½ tl lääkehiiltä

Here is the recipe:

201 g olive oil
69 g coconut oil
15 g cocoa butter
15 g avocado oil

114 g chamomile tea + 41 g lye
½ teaspoon kaolin clay
½ teaspoon activated charcoal 

Papupurkista lyhdyksi - From a bean can to a lantern

Luin jo useita kuukausia sitten miten ihmiset ovat tehneet säilykepurkeista tuikkulyhtyjä. Unohdin jostain syystä asian ihan kokonaan, mutta lyhty tuli mieleen viime maanantaina kun avasin purkin kidneypapuja eväsruokaani varten. En enää muista mistä ohjeen löysin mutta kun googlettaa "tin can lantern" niin saatte nähdä aivan fantastisia luomuksia. Minun lyhty on niihin verrattuna ihan kun lapsen tekemä :D
I read already several months ago about people that have made lanterns from tin cans. Somehow I forgot that totally, but I remembered the lantern last Monday when I opened a can of kidney beans when I was making lunch. I don´t remember anymore where I found the instructions for the lantern, but you can google "tin can lantern" and see amazing creations. Compared to them, my little lantern is like a child had made it :D

Mutta lyhdyn tekeminen on tosi helppoa. 

1. avaa purkki ja syö sisältö
2. pese purkki sisältä ja liota pois etiketti
3. täytä vedellä ja jäädytä pakastimessa
4. naputtele naulalla pieniä reikiä jotka muodostavat kuvion
5. kiinnitä purkkin sanka joka on tehty rautalangasta
6. jos haluat niin maalaa purkki spraymaalilla

But it is reay easy to make one.

1. open the can and eat the content
2. wash the can and remove the label
3. fill the can with water and freeze it
4. tap with a nail and a hammer small holes in the can so you get the pattern you want
5. attach a handle made from steel wire
6. if you want to you can paint the can with a spray color

Tässä vielä lyhty päivänvalossa. /Here is the lantern in daylight.

Minä en irrottanut heti etikettiä vaan piirsin siihen kuvion jotta olisi helpompi tehdä reikiä oikeisiin kohtiin. Voi myös tehdä niin että tulostaa haluamansa kuvion ja teippaa sen purkkiin niin saa oikein tosi nättejä kuvioita lyhtyyn. Minun sanka on tehty hieman liian ohueesta rautalangasta, mutta se oli ainoata mitä kaupassa oli. Ja kyllä lyhty pysyy silläkin koukussa. Sain maalata purkin monta kertaa ennen kuin väristä tuli kohtuu peittävä. En tiedä oliko minulla vääränlaista spraymaalia kun ei ole spraymaaleista kokemusta. Tämä oli niin helppoa ja kivaa että taidan tehdä muutamat lyhdyt lisää. Kesäksi ne voisi maalata vaikka turkoosilla tai keltaisella maailla.
I did not remove the label right away. I thought that it would be easier to make the holes when I draw the pattern on the label. If you want to you can also print a picture and tape it to the can to get a very beautiful pattern on the lantern. The handle was made from almost too thin steel wire, but it was the only wire in the store. I had to paint the can several times so the color would cover. Don´t know if I used the wrong kind of spray paint because I have not used it before. This lantern was very easy and fun to make so I think I will make some more. In the summer the lanterns could be colored with turquoise or yellow paint. 

Avokadoshampoosaippua - Avocado shampoo bar

Tässä on nyt sitten ensimmäinen saippua jonka tein uudessa kodissa! Vähän jouduin etsimään tavaroita, mutta otin sen hyötyliikunnan kannalta kun sain juosta rappusia ylös ja alas. Minun saippuatarvikkeeni on yläkerrassa, mutta monet mittavälineet löytyivät alakerrasta. Ja astioiden pesu tapahtuu myös alakerrassa. Katsotaan nyt mihin lopullinen saippuantekopiste muodostuu.
So here is the first soap I made in our new home! I had to look for my soaping stuff, but it was only a little bit of exercise to run up and down the stairs. Most of my soaping equipment are upstairs, but some of the measurement cups are downstairs. And I wash the dishes downstairs. Will see in what room my soaping area will be.

Muuton jälkeen huomasin etenkin mieheni hiuksissa että ne rasvottuvat helpommin. Minäkin olen joutunut käyttämään kuivashampoota ahkerammin. Mietin pitkää mistä tämä johtuu, mutta ainoa tekijä on se että asumme nykyään hyvin lähellä paikallista vesitornia ja luin joskus aikaisemmin että vesi saattaa olla vähän kovempaa. Halusin tehdä shampoosaippuan joka olisi vähän aikaisempia saippuoita puhdistavampi, mutta kuitenkin hoitavaa jotta nykyään aika pitkät hiukseni eivät kuivuisi latvoista. Hoitoainetta en ole käyttänyt johonkin aikaan koska tämä talvi on ollut poikkeuksellisen lämmin. Lunta ei näy ja takapihalla kukkii kaunis sininen orvokki ja ruusussa on nuppuja.
After we moved I noticed that my husbands hair was getting greasy much easier. I have also used more dry shampoo than before. The only thing that has changed is that we live close to the local water tower and I read earlier that the water can be a bit harder. I wanted to make a shampoo bar that would be a little more cleansing than the other shampoo bars I have made, but still nourishing that my quite long hair would not get to dry from the ends. I have not used conditioner for a while because this winter has been so warm. There is no snow and a beautiful blue violet blooming in my back yard and one rose has buds.

Ainekset valitsin sen perusteella että avokado, avokadoöljy ja jojobaöljy hellivät hiuksia. Hamppumaidossa on myös paljon rasvahappoja ja hivenaineita. Sesaminsiemenöljy, risiiniöljy ja kookosöljy sekä vihreä savi puhdistavat. 
I chose avocado and jojoba oil because they are so good for your hair. Hemp milk contains fatty acids and minerals. Sesame, castor and green clay has good cleansing properties.

Avokadoshampoosaippua

205 g kookosöljyä
100 g seesaminsiemenöljyä
70 g oliiviöljyä
60 g avokadoöljyä
40 g jojobaöljyä
30 g risiniöljyä

73 g lipeää + 73 g vettä
110 g itse tehtyä hamppumaitoa + soseutettu pieni ½ avokado (lisäsin nämä kiisselivaiheessa)

1 tl vihreää savea
10 ml Freesia tuoksuöljyä 

Avocado shampoo bar

205 g coconut oil
100 g sesame oil
70 g olive oil
60 g avocado oil
40 g jojoba oil
30 g castor oil

73 g lye + 73 g water
110 g home made hemp milk and ½ small avocado mashed (added at trace)

1 teaspoon green clay
10 ml Freesia FO

Pitää sitten keväämällä raportoida miten tämä shampoo toimii, mutta sen näkee vasta useamman kuukauden kuluttua. 
I have to report you in early spring if this shampoo is good for our hair, but wil see in several months.
 

Helppo ja tehokas deodorantti - An easy and effective deodorant

Tämän helpompaa deodoranttia ei varmaankaan ole olemassa jos ei laske mukaan pelkkää kookosöljyä. Ja tämä on juuri niille jotka saavat ihottumaa deodoranteista joissa on ruokasoodaa. Minulle ruokasooda kävi hetken, mutta nyt siitä tulee ihottumaa jo kahden käyttökerran jälkeen. Löysin ohjeen A Blossoming Lifestä. 
I don´t think there is an easier deodorant than this if you don´t count using only coconut oil. This deodorant is perfect for those who get a rash from deodorant with baking soda. I could use deodorant with baking soda earlier, but now I get a rash after two times. I found the recipe from A Blossoming Life.

Kiinteää purissa, mutta sulaa nopeasti ihon lämmöstä. /It is quite firm, but it melts quickly.

 
Tein oman deodorantin aika tarkkaan ohjeen mukaan eli:

½ kuppia (125 ml) maissitärkkelystä
½ kuppia kookosöljyä
40 tippaa laventelin eteeristä öljyä
20 tippaa rosmariinin eteeristä öljyä

Sekoita ja käytä!

My version contains: 

½ cup cornstarch 
½ cup coconut oil 
40 dropps lavender EO
20 dropps rosemary EO

Mix and use!

Arrowjuurijauhe sopii oikein hyvin tähän, mutta halusin käyttää huomattavasti kalliimman jauheen puuteriin ja kuivashampooseen. Olen muuten ihan ihastunut niihin ja puuteria olen tehnnyt jo kolme kertaa. En myöskään voi enää elää ilman itse tehtyä hiuslakkaa. Se on niin paljon parempaa kun kaupan aineet ja sitä olen jo käyttänyt neljä 125 ml pulloa.
You can use arrowroot powder instead of cornstarch, but I wanted to save the much more expensive powder for my facial powder and dry shampoo. I just love them and I have already made the facial powder tree times. I also can´t live without my DIY hair spray. It is so much better that store bought versions and I have already used four 125 ml bottles of it.
 
Deodorantti toimii hyvin ja kainalot eivät ole vielä kertaakaan haisseet hieltä. Ovat pelkästään tuoksuneet eteerisille öljyille tai ei millekään. Vaatteisiin ei ole tullut mitään tahroja, mutta en ole käyttänyt mitään herkkiä materiaaleja vaan ihan perusvaatteita. Mikään antiperspirantti tämä ei ole, mutta mielestäni tehokas ja toimiva deodorantti. Tuoksu tuntui alussa liian voimakkalle kun haistelee suoraan purkista, mutta kanaloisssa tuoksu on kohtuu mieto.
I think that this deodorant is effective and my armpits have not smelled like sweat at all. They have only had a scent of the essential oils or just smelled nothing. I have no stains on my clothes, but I have not used any sensitive materials just basic clothes. This is no antiperspirant, but a good deodorant. First I thought that the cent was too strong, but it is only when you smell the deodorant straight from the jar, but when you use the deodorant the smell is very mild.
