Vaahdotettu vuohenmaitosaippua - Whipped Goat Milk Soap

This was really fun to make! It was nice to make soap in a little different way than normal cold process. It was a little more work, but it didn´t take that much more time.

I red several recipes and blogs about how to make whipped soap. You can find several good instructions and videos how to make this kind of soap. I liked the best Nizzy´s Whipped Soap and Rustic Escentuals Crafting Library. I learned from them that any soap recipe is fine, it just has to have over half hard butters and oils. Before I also thought that you could only make whipped soap with water, but you can make it also with different milks like goat milk.

Täällä tuoksuu makea kirsikka. Here smells like sweet cherry.

The main idea with whipped soap is that you whip air in the hard oils and butters so the soap gets fluffy and it floats. This is really fun if you have a tub and children probably think this soap is fun. I bought a cheap electric mixer for soap making and it worked just fine. My recipe is really simple and I wanted to use inexpensive oils because you will never know how soap behaves. The recipe is not that moisturizing either, but the flax seed oil and goat milk are good for your skin.

203 g kookosrasvaa
123 g possunrasvaa
245 g munkinpaistorasvaa
50 g pellavansiemenöljyä

176 g vuohenmaitoa
90 g lipeää
punaista saippuaväriä
Kirsikkapiirakka-tuoksuöljyä

203 g coconut fat (a hard block you can buy here at the local grocery store)
123 g lard
245 g vegetable fat (it is a bit like Crisco, it is used for deep frying doughnuts)
50 g flax seed oil

176 g goat milk
90 g lye
liquid red soapcolor
Cherry Pie FO

It is better to use coconut oil that this coconut fat. I had to chop it even if it had been for several hours in room temperature and put the container with the fat in warm water so I could whisk it with the other oils.

The idea is that the hard oils and butters are at room temperature and the lye mixture should also be cold. You whipp the hard oils and butters so it looks like meringue or whipped cream. I recommend that the mixing bowl should be large and high because then there will less mess. The oils and butters will be twice as big when you have whipped it. Then you can add the liquid oils slowly to the mixture. Now it will still look like whipped cream, but the peaks are softer and the soap is more shiny. After I had mixed all the butters and oils, I mixed the lye with the goat milk (that was frozen into ice cubes). If you only use water you can either use ice cubes or make a normal lye mixture and let it cool in the fridge. I whisked the lye solution very slowly into the whipped oils and I mixed for awhile after that so all the lye would be mixed properly.

Now the soap is ready, but if you want to you can add colors or fragrance. Remember there is no need to hurry and if you want to you can use flower FO`s without any problems. If you use colors, you can put more than normally because the batter is so white that it will turn all colors to pastel. I colored 1/3 to pink and 2/3 to very light pink. I put Cherry Pie FO in the light pink soap. This is a new fragrance to me so I had no idea if it would color the soap. The fragrance smells buttery and not that good when I smelled it straight from the bottle, but in the soap it is really good. It smells like fresh cherries. I put the soap in the freezer for a few hours because it contains goat milk, but it you use only water you can leave it in room temperature. Because the oil and butters are so cool and also the lye solution is cold, the soap will not gel. But it also means that there will be lye for longer and the soap will be "zappy" when you cut it. Remember to let this soap cure for at least four weeks. And one thing more, do not cut this soap with a knife! The soap crumbles easily. I don´t have a wire cutter, so I cut it with a single thread. The kind I use when I make necklaces. It worked just fine and I got nice soap bars.

  1. Nice bars,Marika. I've studied this technique, from the same sourced you did,but still haven't whipped any soap. I'm glad you did,you are the first one of my soap fellows that did. Too many projects are on my list, some of them very demanding,I really don't know when they all come to their turn. But it's good to know others get their hands into something new! Put some pics of a floating bar, once they are ready to use.

  2. Thnks for translating this long post into English, Marika! I am interested in making some whipped soaps too, I have already tried a whipped soap and I loved it. Maybe it was only an impression, but the soap I tried made a lot more foam than a normal CP soap.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice weekend!

    1. Thanks Natalia! It was a big job translating, but I had time so it was worth it :) I have never tried a whipped soap nor seen one before, so this was a fun and interesting project. Sometimes in the future I could make whipped soap with camomile flowers and other infusions and stuff.

    1. Thank you Cee. It was fun to make. Maybe a little bit more messy than normal CP soap, but I recommend to try it at least once. And it is a lot like baking cakes so it would suit you ':)

  5. Beautiful, Marika! I love the pink-on-pink. I've never tried to make whipped soaps before, but it sounds fun. I think I've heard whipped soap called "floap" since it floats. :)
