Pohjassakin on hieman kuviota/ There are also some patterns in the bottom of the soap |
My husband liked really much the nettle shampoo bar that I made in the beginning of the summer and we have already used three bars. I have also tried the plantain shampoo bar and I like it much. I was thinking that now that there is still some good plants, I´m going to make a shampoo bar for hubby with both nettle and plantain. I picked some plantain leafs from a nearby field and picked some small nettles and the tips of big nettles form a bush that is near our house. I rinsed the plants, dried them, chopped them and infused the fresh plants into olive oil for three hours. I let the mixture cool down the whole evening and sieved it before I went to bed.
Vähän härmää, mutta ei haittaa/A little bit of ash, but it´s ok |

Here is the recipe:

75 g castor oil

Peony FO
Yellow and black iron oxide
Keltainen saippua meni piiloon tumman alle/ The yellow soap is hiding under the dark soap |
An experienced soap maker can see from this recipe that this could be challenging. The flower FO and egg yolks made the soap to thicken up really fast and I had no time to make a stripe pattern on he top of the soap that I had planned, even if I did not use any FO or yolks in the colored soap. I really had to use muscle when I spooned the soap in the mold. But I managed to make some kind of swirled pattern with a chopstick, but it got a little too dark. My hubby likes the look of these shampoo bars. I think that they could have looked a little bit fresher, but we sure will use these when they are cured. Afterwards I was wondering if these pigments could color the hair? Luckily I have dark hair and my husband has medium brown so if there would be some discoloration, it will not be that obvious.
