I wanted to make beautiful banana milk soaps as Cee and Kalla have made. This was suppose to be a soap called Bollywood Banana, but it became a small catastrophe. Now I´m laughing, but a week ago when I cut the soap I was not happy at all.
This is how the soap looked like when I took it out of the freezer. Nice, isn´t it? I like the small dots that is pureed banana.
But when I cut the soap, there was something inside the soap that reminds me of ultralight apple sauce or vaseline. Did not know what else I could do than cut the soap into small pieces and put it in the oven.
The oven soaps became ok and they still smell like Bollywood fragrance oil. The soap was actually only 15 minutes in the oven and it had already melted.
I got only one "normal looking" soap from the original soap. The color is that much darker because Bollywood FO discolors the soap.
I saved a these soaps that did not have that gel inside them. Still don´t know that to do with them. The dark edges are already hard, but the light center is still soft. Perhaps I will grate them and use it in some other soap.
Ohhoh, mikäköhän tuon sai aikaan? :-/ Aika outoa juttu...mutta tosi hyvin sait korjattua uuniin laittamisella.
PoistaI don't know what happened there, but it's least likely overheated. You kept it in the fridge, right? Or,did you take it out too early? Did you put too much of liquids, maybe? I really would like to know what caused this. At least, you can save it in a million ways!
VastaaPoistaIt was in the fridge for almost one day. I wrote about this also on troublemaker and I estimate that it was in the fridge for 18-20 hours and it felt very hard when I took it out. Is there something called too much liquids? I normally use one part lye and three parts liquid when I make milk soaps.
PoistaStrange,I didn't get update from Troublemaker (while I was reading your post,I thought this was a story for it,lol)!
PoistaI don't know,I never use that much liquid, even not for milk soaps (i rather discount even for those). If this 'sauce' mass appeared after the soap had sit for a while at room temp.it might be too much liquid! I would definitely dismiss overheating, though! Going to check 'Troublemaker' now!
I would cry, it looked so promising in the first picture! It is fascinating for sure, I wonder why it would only be in the centre? Great save though! I really do love banana milk in soap, I hope you get a chance to try it again :(
VastaaPoistaHave no idea why the reaction is only in the center of the soap. I asked on the Finnish soap group on FB, but nobody had any idea what had happened.
PoistaI made a new version of banana milk soap today, but they are still in the freezer and I´m going to be super nervous when I cut them.
I'm so glad you decided to give it another try! I'll be crossing my fingers for you, good luck! :D
PoistaI had the same problem once, in the beginning of my soaping experience. I threw the soap away, it was too much mess. I wish I could know what was the problem( I thought I didn't mix well, but not sure this could be).
VastaaPoistaDon´t think that mixing was the problem. I love my stick blender <3 ;)
PoistaI think it was just too much banana for one small soap.
I am sorry it overheated, it had such a beautiful gold color. I wonder what made it overeat
VastaaPoistaI wonder too, but this make me try and try again until I get it right :)
PoistaI've never seen anything like this before, Marika, but it sure is interesting! It's always disappointing when things don't go well in the soaping kitchen, but I'm glad that you were able to save the soaps by putting them in the oven. I hope you can successfully rebatch the others. It does sound like a lovely soap!
VastaaPoistaNeither have I! But I´ll figure out something that I can do with those other soaps.
