Voikukka Kastiliansaippua - Dandelion Castile soap

I really like simple olive oil soap. Usually I make it a couple times a year and let it cure for several months. I also hide one or two bars that I let cure a year or more. I use my olive oil soaps as shower bars, I wash my dog with it and grate it for my body scrubs. Before I always made unscented and uncolored olive oil soap, but this time I made the soap with both color and scent. And I have been waiting from last fall for dandelions to bloom so I can get lovely dandelion oil.

The recipe is so simple: 261 g olive oil infused with dandelion flowers, 99 g sour raw goat milk, 32 g lye and 7,5 ml Paheri Mango fragrance oil. The FO smells very much like mango and a little bit of citrus. This is a very small batch of soap, but it was big enough to fill my new butterfly mold. It is just perfect for simple and one colored soaps. I got eight small butterfly bars that are almost twice as small as my normal soap bar. They are a good size to take with you for trips or put in your bag when you go exercising etc.

Vasemmalla vuohenmaito, yllä oikealla tavallinen oliiviöljysaippua. / On the left goat milk soap and on the left plain olive oil soap.

I made from the rest of the oils a similar soap, but I used only water as liquid. I thought that the soap would be darker than the version with goat milk, but it was much lighter. I scented it with Gardenia FO. The Fo can be very tricky because it can speed up trace very fast, but it suited well to this olive oil soap. It made the soap thicken up a little bit when I poured it in the mold, but it did not became too thick. Now I have to wait several months for the soaps to cure.

  3. So pretty Marika, a perfect 'sunny' color! I love that butterfly mold too! Is the yellow color only from the dandelion oil?

    1. Thank you Cee. The color is only from the dandelion oil. I infused fresh dandelions for a week and got a very warm yellow color. I also love the butterfly mold. It took me a year to decide if I would buy it or not :D But now I have it.

    1. It is so gentle, but still a very good and effective soap. The color is only from infused dandelions. I hope the soap will have some yellow color after it has been fully cured.

  6. Your butterflies are so cute,Marika. And the scents sound refreshing and summer-y! Only, you will have to wait winter to start using them. Or next summer!
Did you leave dandelion leaves to dry on the air,or did you boost drying somehow?

    1. Thanks :o) I found a recipe where you infuse fresh dandelion flowers for a week. You put them in a glass jar and let the sun warm the oil from time to time.
These are actually for next summer :) But I will probably try one in the 6 months.

  7. So cute, Marika! I love the little butterfly shapes, and the yellow color from the dandelions is so pretty! Castile is so nice after a long cure. I like to let mine sit for at least six months, but I prefer to leave them for a year or more if I can manage it.
